I love to talk in schools and to run workshops too. I'm lucky enough to be able to work with all primary school ages. In fact, I even run workshops with high school kids - although they're a bit scarier than the primary school ones! I live in Melbourne, but I'm very happy to visit schools anywhere in Australia and overseas if people would like to arrange a visit.

Michael thrilling the kids with a Magpies flag at a school talk.

Quotes from teachers and librarians (real ones):

"The children thought he was fantastic and he was very inspiring, especially for young boys you are reluctant to read." Sue Austin, Heathmont East PS

"Anyone who shares stories about frisbeeing nappies, self-gratuitous football commentary and conducts a game of corridor cricket in a library is a genius."

"Very engaging, funny, couldn't wipe the smiles off our faces."

"Funny, inspiring, very entertaining."

"Many students were inspired to start writing their own stories."

"He had a wonderful rapport with all of the students."

"Great audience involvement."

Here's what my Victorian booking agent, Booked Out, says about my school visits.

Since growing up in a housing commission flat in Melbourne, Michael Wagner has played in a band that almost became famous, spent 10 years as a radio broadcaster with the ABC, written and produced animation for television (including scripts for the Old Tom TV series), and now delights in writing fresh, fast and funny books for children.

In the past few years Michael has written 38 children’s books, but is best known for his Maxx Rumble Footy and Cricket series (short-listed for the 2005 YABBA, COOL and KOALA awards), the acclaimed novel Dog Wars, and his hilarious and warm-hearted six-book series about a hyper-sporty (and competitive) father and son known as The Undys (Penguin Australia, 2007-08).

Michael’s entertaining, uplifting, educational talks bring his stories to life, support teachers by enthusing kids to read and write, equip students with new writing skills, and provide insights into the techniques of an author

Michael enjoys talking to primary school children of all ages, and conducts workshops with middle-upper primary students and secondary students.
